  1. RECRUITING TALENT AT HENTSCH MAN

Hentsch Man is looking for a young, eager and talented intern… Life at our office is full of fun and games and though we can’t offer much pay, we can guarantee fast-paced living, a steep learning curve, lots of running around and general entertainment. This is not an opportunity to be missed… We’ll need our young blossom to start on the 3rd January, for a period of one to three months. January is a very bust time for us as this is when we’ll be distributing our Spring/Summer 2011 collection throughout the world, and selling the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection at our showroom and trade fairs throughout Europe. We’ll need our intern to be fully plugged into all these tasks, from administering the website, to shipping our wares and dealing with buyers. It’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in the ‘behind the scenes’ of fasion.

We’re looking for a young sprout who’s organised, flexible, and above all willing and able… We love an eager beaver!

If this description strikes a cord, please drop an email to aaliyah@hentschman.com with your CV and a brief description of who you are, what you like and why you think you fit the Hentsch Man bill…

We look forward to the email overload!

    Love,

    Hentsch Man

  2. IT’S NOT A POP-UP, IT’S A PISS-UP

We’ve popped up, we’ve popped down, we’ve popped in, we’ve popped out, and now we’re pooped. So instead of yet another Pop-up, for this Christmas season we’re doing a Piss-up. The concept is similar as we’ve done in the past; we’ve hired a space, we’re selling our wares, we’re loving our customers, etc. etc.
The difference this time is that we’re being naughtier. We open up on Thursday 9th December to something akin to the Munich Beer Fest. Ach so! This means free beers for all lovers of Hentsch Man. And then we stay open for a three-day sale, in which time we promise to deliver all that you’ve come to expect from us. Cords, tweeds, mince pies, cashmere, beers, denims, carols… That warm fuzzy feeling that Hentsch Man does so well.

    It’s Holiday Fun for Everyone!!

    Love,

    Hentsch Man

  3. PAS SI PETIT A PITTI!

Pitti Uomo, for those of you who don’t know it, is the world’s largest and most renowned menswear trade show. Twice a year this prestigious event, held in Florence, showcases old and new talent, presenting brands to press and buyers from all four corners of the world. And because it’s an invitation only affair, it’s a BIG DEAL to be showing there. And guess what? This year, Hentsch Man has made the cut.
So, look out for us at the 79th Pitti Uomo in Florence, from January 11-14 (watch this space for details of our stand). We’ll be showcasing our newest Autumn/Winter 2011 collection, which we’re just finishing off here at the studio. We wouldn’t want to give too much away, but we’ll give you a teaser – have a look at some of the cool new outwear sketches below…

We look forward to seeing you there!

    Love,

    Hentsch Man

  4. THE BARRED BROTHERS

Stripes have been a much adored staple in fashion for everyone from New Romantics to Prepsters, but going back closer to their origins in fashion, stripes in Medieval times were the uniform for outcasts such as prostitutes, ruffians, Jews, “the condemned” and hangmen!

According to the medieval french scholar, Michel Pastoureau, horizontal stripes caused a big stir in Paris in the middle of the 13th century when Palestinian monks arrived wearing brown and white horizontal striped cloaks. The French, who only wanted white cloaks, were not happy with this at all and nicknamed the monks “the barred brothers”. Although it cannot be 100% confirmed, this is believed to be the origin of prison stripes which were meant to signify cell bars.

The French however came to their senses eventually, as is apparent from their 18th century symbol of new order the Tricolore, and became the birth place of some of the most iconic fashion designers in modern history, famous for their use of stripes such as Coco Chanel and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Legend has it that Coco Chanel borrowed a blue and white, thinly stiped sweater – the Breton, established in 1858 by the French navy – from her lover, tailored it to herself, et voila! It became a timeless and tireless symbol of Gallic chic, and thanks to brands such as Hentsch Man favourites A.P.C., the same aesthetic is still tastefully re-imagined today.

Hentsch Man is proud to offer our interpretation of the simple horizontal striped sweater in a wool/cashmere mix which we’ve named the Simon Stripe, it was made in Scotland, capital of the UK’s knitwear production and comes in Grey/Beige, Grey/Navy and Navy/Red.

  5. HENTSCH MAN STANDING THE TEST OF TIME…

At Hentsch Man, we’re very proud to call ourselves a fully European company – sourcing and producing in Spain, Portugal and Italy. But we’re even more proud when we have things made in the United Kingdom (to that end, see our lovely AW10 sweaters, made in Scotland of 100% Scottish yarn).

So you can imagine our excitement when we discovered British Millerain, a British family-run manufacturer of performance fabrics. The company is the official supplier of the original Barbour jacket and they’re also responsible for for the British army getup too (their canvases are used for soldier’s uniforms and ship and jet equipment). British Millerain fabrics undergo extensive waterproofing, flame retardant and rot resistance tests, so it’s no wonder their name resists the test of time (no pun intended).

And because we want our jackets to last forever, we’ve started using their fabrics too. The first of these collaborations will see the light in our Spring Summer 2011 collection (launched March 2011), and the reason we bring this up now is that we’re just in our final stages of designing and sampling our Autumn Winter 2011 collection (next year only…) and guess what? British Millerain is all over the shop!

It’s all very exciting… Check out their lovely labels (which will sit proudly beside the Hentsch Man one!)

    Love,

    Hentsch Man
